Both have a Maximum of 10 images per case.
Entrants may submit a total of 20 images:

10 images per case in the ELECTRONIC IMAGING (Artist) Competition)
⁃Images may be submitted as physical prints or digital images.
⁃Physical prints must be a minimum of 80” (sq inches) up to 144” (sq inches), with the longest side no more than 12”
⁃Prints must be mounted. Prints may be mounted on any material, there are no restrictions. PPA of PA is not responsible for damaged prints.
All images will be critiqued. If entrant does not wish his entries to receive comments, please email Aaron Beale prior to the competition.

Join noted photographer Harold Ross for an information packed presentation on Sculpting with Light, a technique that he has been perfecting for more than 25 years.
Harold will show you how his method of light painting can absolutely transform the ordinary subject into something remarkable. His lighting technique reveals extraordinary detail, shape, and dimension in his subjects. Harold will explain what he means by “Sculpting with Light”, the advantages of light painting in still life and landscape photography, his Six Principles of Lighting, and in reviewing some of his work, he will explain how these principles work in practice and he’ll show why his process is so transformative. He’ll explain why the lighting tools needed are very few and quite inexpensive.
After his talk on Sculpting with Light, watch live as Harold photographs a still life using light painting; He’ll explain why he uses particular angles, distance and motion of the light. Harold will also show how he balances color for different light sources. Then, follow along as Harold demonstrates the simple yet powerful use of layers and masking in Photoshop to finalize the image. See how he uses specific brush techniques to accomplish a more sculptural rendering of subjects. You will see how these simple techniques, combined with proper lighting, gives us an amazing amount of creative control, depth, and dimension in our images. The entire demonstration will be projected.
Born into a military family in 1956, Harold grew up in New Mexico and Germany. His parents were adventurous, and took the family on outings almost every weekend… hiking in the desert, horseback riding and camping in the mountains, exploring castles and old gardens in Germany and camping in Italy. These outings, of course, left many lasting impressions.
After moving back with his family to the U.S., Harold began photographing. As a young teenager, he bought his first camera, a GAF Instamatic. He still has the camera today.
After graduating from Maryland Institute of Art (MICA) in 1978, Harold produced photographic fine art and taught photography at the college level for several years. He opened a studio in 1987, and for almost 30 years, light painting has been the only method of lighting that he’s used. (He refers to his process as “Sculpting with Light”).
Harold is deeply influenced by the work of Wynn Bullock, Irving Penn and W. Eugene Smith.
Since 1979, He has been creating distinctive work in the studio as well as in the night landscape. Harold specializes in Light Painting, a technique involving “painting” the light over a long time exposure. He also teaches workshops in light painting and regularly gives lectures on his methods.
His large scale color work has been exhibited, collected, and published in the U.S. and internationally in The Royal Photographic Society (The Journal), Photo China Magazine, Progresso Fotografico, Ukraine Photographer, as well as several other European magazines. In the U.S., his work was featured in LensWork #93, LensWork #121, and LensWork #137, Professional Photographer Magazine, and Digital Photographer, among others. Digital publications include The New York Times LENS, Boing Boing, aCurator, LENSCRATCH, Colossal, Photigy, Luminous Landscape, and more. In 2011, Harold was invited to participate in an exhibition of landscape photography in Inner Mongolia, China along with 10 other American and 20 Chinese photographers. He was also chosen as one of four photographers to exhibit in the inaugural FRESH exhibition at Klompching Gallery in Brooklyn, New York. Harold lives in Lancaster County, PA, with his wife, Vera and their two Basenjis, where he produces work and teaches workshops in his process.
The purpose of this workshop/presentation is to give the participants simplified, practical and repeatable methodologies to enhance their photographic images utilizing PS & LR. The main emphasis will be with illustrative Nature images. My professional goal is to create compelling photographs. Since 1970, I have been drawn to the fascinating, intricate world of macrophotography and the wondrous magnificence of landscape photography. From 1971-1973, I dabbled in a makeshift wet darkroom. I found it to be creative, very time consuming, wet, smelly and caustic. After two years I gave it up. Then the magical age of computerized (digital) photography erupted early in 2000’s. It allowed me to combine photography and computer technology and as a result my repressed inner artistic self came out of the closet. I was hooked, and have never turned back. Prior to the “digital darkroom” I felt very limited in my ability to recreate the feelings and visualizations that I experienced when I clicked the shutter, and was stuck with the out-of-camera-capture. Over the years, there has been an evolution/revolution of many fine software programs, especially LR & PS that provided me with greater latitude in my creative post-processing techniques. I enrolled in many online and in-person trainings, meetings and workshops. I met kindred photographers whose inner artist had finally become unleashed in the digital age. My own creativity in correcting and adjusting my images, compiling composites, and producing works driven by imagination and fantasy exploded. When I exhibit my works, many people do not think they are photographs but rather oil paintings or pastels. That brings me to the final aspect of photography, the print. Joe McNally states that we are ‘slaves of the print’. I agree. The print gives the photographic image tangible substance and longevity. I believe that it is the greatest compliment when a stranger, who has not commissioned me, wants to hang my piece of art on their wall- not just to momentarily glance at it on a computer screen- but enjoy it every day. In today’s presentation, my goal is to provide you with an opportunity to explore with me my application of post-processing techniques, which have evolved and continue to evolve. There will be tips and tricks, setting up pre-sets, creating brushes, exploring shadow-and-highlights, creating luminosity blends, preparing for display & printing, masking, evaluation, and more. Most importantly, there will be inspiration. We will go from simple to complex. This course is for the beginner to the advanced post-processor.
