Outdoor Drone Flight Demonstration
This outdoor session will provide a practical demonstration of basic drone flight, drone photography, and drone videography for professional imaging applications. Building on the introductory classroom session, participants will see how drones are prepared, launched, flown, positioned, and used to capture still photographs and video in a controlled outdoor setting.
The class will include demonstrations of both standard unaided visual line-of-sight flight and FPV-style flight, with discussion of how each approach can be used for different creative and practical objectives. Applications of drones for professional photography and video will be discussed and demonstrated, including aerial perspectives, subject tracking, establishing shots, group/class imagery, and short video sequences.
When conditions permit, participants will have the opportunity to conduct a brief supervised drone flight under instructor guidance. The session will emphasize safe flight operations, situational awareness, basic camera positioning, communication between pilot and participants, and the practical decision-making required before and during a drone operation.
All flight activities are subject to suitable weather, site conditions, available airspace, and the absence of unanticipated FAA flight restrictions or temporary flight restrictions in the area. Safety and regulatory compliance will determine whether and how flight demonstrations are conducted.
Instructor:
Robert S. Becker, CPP, M.Photog. is a professional photographer, media creator, and FAA Part 107 certified remote pilot based in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. He is the founder of RSB Photo Media, which provides photography, video, audio, and aerial imaging services for businesses, organizations, and professionals throughout the Lehigh Valley and surrounding region. His personal photography work is featured through RS Becker Photography, with an emphasis on portraits, nature, travel, and fine-art imagery.
Robert has been a member of PPA since 2019. He is a Certified Professional Photographer and holds the Master of Photography degree through PPA. His professional work includes commercial photography, environmental portraits, event coverage, facility and architectural photography, video production, and drone-based aerial imaging. He has been a member of PPA for PA for the last several years and serves on its Board of Governors.
As an FAA Part 107 certified remote pilot since 2023, Robert uses drones as practical imaging tools for both still photography and video production. His drone work includes aerial views of facilities, landscapes, events, and large properties, as well as supporting visual storytelling for businesses and organizations. His approach emphasizes safe, legal, and purposeful drone operations, including pre-flight planning, airspace awareness, weather evaluation, client communication, and the integration of aerial images into broader photography and media projects.
