The Basic StoryBrand Framework

Mary Fisk-Taylor, MBA, M. Photog., Cr., CPP, EA-ASP, ABI, API presents…

The Basic StoryBrand Framework

Monday, March 22, 2021 – 2:00PM – 4:00PM – INSPIRE Speaker

Zoom Presentation

Several years ago, Mary read the best-selling book by Donald Miller, StoryBrand, and it changed her business forever. StoryBrand became such an important part of her business that she chose to study in person with the author and his team and become a Certified StoryBrand Guide. In this program Mary will give you an overview of the 7-part Framework of StoryBrand and how this powerful concept has become an integral part of her business. If you have not read the book that is fine, but to get the maximum impact from this program it would be helpful. Other resources available on line is the www.mystorybrand.com website where you can follow along with the Framework.

For almost 25 years Mary Fisk-Taylor has owned a portrait and wedding business with her business partner, Jamie Hayes in Richmond, Virginia. Hayes & Fisk Photography is one of the most sought-after Portrait and Wedding studios in their industry. Mary and Jamie are both incredibly committed to preserving family legacies, professionally capturing and printing portrait and milestone memories. They both believe that these fleeting need to be proudly displayed in family’s homes, not living digitally on phones, computers and modern technology. Mary also partners with her Mom and sister in a boutique volume and high school senior portrait studio that caters to local private schools and stresses both excellence in hometown and local client service and technical proficiency in the art of photography.

Mary was very pleased and honored to have received her Master of Photography, Craftsmen of Photography and Certification of Professional Photography in just three short years. Mary has been named Photographer of the Year in 2007 and has won Best Wedding Album of the Year in Virginia several times. Nationally she has had her prints and albums recognized as Grand Imaging Award finalists. Mary is also a recipient of the prestigious Virginia Award, which honors photographers for their commitment and dedication to their state association, and the business of professional photography. And, in 2012 she was awarded the PPA Charities Legacy Award for her work and dedication to the philanthropic arm of PPA. In 2014 Mary was awarded the Charles H. (Bud) Haynes Award for her distinguished service to PPA and its members and for encouraging business awareness and practices in the field of professional image-making. And in 2015 Mary was honored to receive the National Award from the Southeastern Professional Photographers Association for her commitment and dedication to Professional Photography and has gone on to receive two more National Awards from other affiliates. Mary has also taught and lectured all of the United States, as well as the Philippines, Korea, Canada, Mexico and Italy and most recently South Africa.

Mary is of course most proud of her two beautiful children, Alexandra and Jackson. Her husband, Daryl, and she enjoys the flexibility and joy that owning a profitable photography studio has allowed their family. Mary currently serves on the Executive Committee of the PPA Board of Directors, is a proud member of the Society of XXV, and is a past President of the PPA Board of Charities. She holds offices and board positions for her state professional photography affiliate, Virginia PPA and serves on several philanthropic and local boards. She is extremely active with Operation Smile International and has served as a staff photographer for several events and missions. At the age of 42 Mary was named one of Virginia’s Top 40 under 40 for her leadership in the community, volunteer and charity work and her business savvy.

Approaches to Photographic Restoration

Monday, March 22, 2021 – 8:00AM to 10:15AM – INSPIRE Speaker

Comfort Suites, 10 South Hanover Street, Carlisle, PA 17013

We will explore the distinctive purposes and challenges of restoring photographs, considering what sets this discipline apart within the IPC Artist division. We will examine a number of damaged photos to speculate on the challenges and walk through one or two of Chris’s recent restorations in a time-lapse fashion, where participants will see particular techniques that he finds productive and efficient. Our goal is to whet your appetite to step into this valuable realm of artistry that brings smiles to clients’ faces. (We will also address some basic business aspects of pursuing this specialty.)

He was named 2018 MDPPA and PP of PA Commercial Photographer of the Year in January and March,

2019, respectively. He was also awarded MDPPA Maryland Achievement Award for 2018 for developments in his own business and contributions to the growth of others as a Certification Liaison. Digital Workflow, File Storage and Remote Working

Kara Clouser presents…

Digital Workflow, File Storage and Remote Working

Sunday, March 21, 2021 – 3:00PM – 4:30PM – INSPIRE Speaker

Comfort Suites, 10 South Hanover Street, Carlisle, PA 17013

Kara will teach her system of  digital workflow including digital storage, backing up files, Lightroom and Photoshop usage across multiple devices (tablet, laptop, desktop).

About Kara

Kara got her start in photography at young age and holds an Associates Degree from Harrisburg Area Community College and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of the Arts, both in photography.

Since graduating, she has worked at Conte Photography (2007-present, owner 2016 to present) and the Patriot News (2007-2010). She’s had the opportunity to work with some wonderful mentors and photographers at both places. She’s had the honor of receiving a few different awards as well as being published in the Patriot News, Glady’s, Blue Mountain Living, Life in Forest Hills, Harrisburg Magazine, and Central Penn Parent.

She has a background in all types of photography and likes to continue offering many different types of photography to suit whatever her clients need.

My passion for art and photography started young.  I always enjoyed snapping photos of whatever I could find.  I never thought about it as a career until I was a junior in high school and had my senior pictures taken.  I was at that time in my life, where I was trying to decide what I was going to do.  I had so much fun with the photographer that I turned to my mom and said: “I think I want to do this for a living.”  My darling mother in return, said to me, “What, be a model?”  I said no, and explained that I think I would enjoy being a photographer.  I didn’t realize what a competitive and difficult path I had chosen for myself and bless my parents, they encouraged me (and paid) for me to follow my dreams.  My high school didn’t have much to offer as far as a photography education or even an elective class.  So, I forged my own path.  Finding teachers that dabbled and eventually getting an internship with a well known studio photographer in the area.  He shot families, children, weddings and so on.  Whatever people needed.  He taught me how to pose and work with people.  This was right on the cusp of digital photography so I had the joy of working with medium format and dabbling in the transition to digital.  After high school, I attended HACC (Harrisburg Area Community College).  HACC’s program was largely focused around art.  My time at HACC was amazing because it allowed me to experience a certain diversity in the photography program.  Some of my classmates were much older than me and in a different place in their lives.  It was incredible to see how this was expressed in their art.  Of course, I learned the important things I needed for photography (like developing film and working in a darkroom).  Like I said, important but I don’t use either of these anymore.  My wonderful parents said they would pay for a 4 year degree.  (I know, they are awesome).  I transferred from HACC to UArts (University of the Arts) for my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.  I learned many more important things here about lighting and composition.  Even digital photography as it was the early 2000s.

When I graduated, I eventually landed an awesome job at the Patriot-News in Harrisburg, PA.  I got to work under an amazing mentor here that taught me all sorts of important things about photography.  Although we did some photojournalism.  He and I were the advertising photo department.  We had a studio but we also had to go on-site and shoot wherever.  I could arrive at Harrisburg in the morning and have to go to Lancaster and Lebanon to meet and photograph the newspaper’s clients.  This was a lot of fun and I learned to think on my feet.
